Decatur High School and the Decatur Career Academy are making state history by launching Georgia's first Work-Based Learning program focused on real estate for high school students. The initiative gives students a chance to explore the real estate industry while still in school, combining classroom instruction with hands-on experience at local businesses and agencies.
Students in the program will learn about property management, sales, marketing, and client relations. They will also work alongside professionals in the field, gaining practical skills that can lead to careers or further study after graduation. School leaders say the program was created to meet growing interest in real estate and to offer students a clear path into a stable, well-paying industry.
The Work-Based Learning model allows students to earn credit while working in a supervised environment. Participants must meet academic requirements and follow a training plan designed with their employer. The program is open to juniors and seniors who have completed prerequisite courses.
Local real estate professionals have welcomed the effort, noting that the industry needs young talent with strong communication and problem-solving skills. School officials hope the program will serve as a model for other districts across Georgia. The first group of students is expected to begin placements this school year.
