After more than 20 years of local leadership, the independent Sugarbush Real Estate brokerage has been sold to new owners. Cindy Carr and Brian Shea, who have guided the firm since the early 2000s, have passed the reins to a group of investors led by veteran real estate professionals.
The transition marks the end of an era for the Mad River Valley brokerage, which has been a fixture in the Sugarbush resort area. Carr and Shea built the company into a respected independent agency known for its deep knowledge of the local market and personalized service. Under their watch, the firm handled thousands of transactions for ski homes, vacation properties, and primary residences in the towns of Warren, Waitsfield, and Fayston.
The new ownership group has announced plans to retain the Sugarbush Real Estate name and keep the current staff in place. They emphasized a commitment to maintaining the same community-focused approach that made the brokerage successful. No major operational changes are expected in the near term, though the new owners hinted at expanding digital marketing efforts and adding more resources for out-of-state buyers.
Carr and Shea said in a joint statement that they felt the time was right to step back, confident that the new team would continue the firm's legacy. Financial terms of the sale were not disclosed. The deal closed earlier this month, with the new owners officially taking over on October 1.
