New details have emerged in the Chino Hills kidnapping and murder case, revealing that the suspect and the victim were not strangers but former commercial real estate partners. According to the suspect's attorney, the two men were locked in a bitter business dispute that may have escalated into violence.
The victim, whose identity has not been officially released pending family notification, was found deceased in the trunk of a vehicle last week. Authorities arrested the suspect, a man in his 40s, shortly after the discovery. The attorney for the suspect now claims that the pair had worked together on multiple property deals over several years, and that a falling out over money and commissions had turned hostile.
"These were two men who knew each other well, and the financial stakes were high," the attorney said in a statement. "The relationship had soured to the point where threats were exchanged, but my client maintains his innocence regarding the actual killing."
Police have not confirmed the motive, but investigators are reportedly looking into financial records, text messages, and witness statements that could shed light on the dispute. The case has drawn attention due to the brutal nature of the crime, with the victim reportedly bound and shot inside the trunk of a car parked in a residential area.
The suspect is being held without bail and is scheduled to appear in court later this month. His attorney has indicated that he will argue self-defense, though prosecutors have not yet filed formal charges. The investigation remains ongoing.
